A probe, a Voyager, lost to time
On a quest, carrying the essence of humankind.
Sent into the great tapestry of the stars
Endlessly transmitting, moving ever afar.

Eyeing the warmonger, the king and more as it moved past
It knew it was on a one-way trip and was not meant to last
And yet it bore important cargo; humanity’s basis and its past.

It had time to think, decades to ponder
As it drifted into the wide black yonder.
Just a speck within Virgo’s supercluster.

It wonders, as toward its uncertain destination it floats:
Will they understand the record it carried and its own transmitting codes?
Did they even exist, the ones for whom the message was intended?
Or were they another of mankind’s fantasies, delusional yet splendid?

And so years went, decades passed
Its signal grew weaker, its time came at last
It feels something touching, alien yet abstract,
Before it fades it transmits: ‘CONTACT’.
